The belly button stalk ends up under the abdominal skin flap in its natural original position. A marking pen indicates this location on the skin so a new belly button can be sculpted in this tissue that used to be above the old belly button and now lies over the buried stalk.

The skin over the buried belly button stalk is now opened. Fat around this incision then needs sculpture to form the shape of the new belly button. |

The
belly button stalk then comes through the new opening. Dr. Bermant
is suturing the belly button stalk to the overlying skin. This repair
is best hidden inside the shadow of the belly button. |
