Compromise Abdominoplasty Obese Patient Before Tumescent Technique
This 51 Year Old Female had scars from two prior cesarean section and a hysterectomy operations. She was unhappy with the scars, the drooping flesh around the abdomen, and the lax abdominal wall. Surgery included abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) and plication (tightening) of the rectus muscles of the abdominal wall.
Height 5' 2" Weight 185 pounds
She was obese with a BMI of 33.8. In general, weight loss is better before Plastic Surgery. Some do not plan on losing weight making this surgery a compromise operation.
Location Surgery: Hospital Operating Room
Anesthesia: General
Abdominal Sculpture included:
- Tightening of the rectus muscles of the abdomen from the chest to the pubic region
- Abdominoplasty - high incision necessitated by prior scars
- Removal of large section of loose skin, and vertical scars from Hysterectomy and Cesarean Section (belly button to groin)
- Recreation of belly button through transposed skin
The photographs at 4 months after surgery, show scars that are still in their "red" phase and have yet to mature. At 11 months the scars are almost fully matured.

Scars after other surgeries can leave both contour irregularities and tissue that is tethered to the fascia and muscle. The bound scars do not move naturally. The new scars, although not evolved, move well and have minimal contour issues. The red nature has faded to a whiter scar over time (usually at least 6 months).
