When Large Earlobes are a component of Macrotia, this Lateral Excision can be a component of ear reduction surgery. The Helix Rim Reduction extends now to include the lobe. With this technique, the ear cheek junction is now the lowest part of the ear.
When not part of a more extensive operation, Dr. Bermant prefers a Medial Based Lobe Reduction. This preserves an earlobe separated from the cheek and avoids the helix rim scar.
