Gynecomastia Male Breast Pinch Test
20 year old male with mixed (fat and gland) gynecomastia. See more about this patient.
Gynecomastia can consist of:
- gland alone
- mixed (gland and fat)
- fat alone
Mixed gynecomastia can have glandular components concentrated or diffusely spread through the male breast. Photographs of evaluation of extra tissue by palpation.
An examination before surgery can demonstrate the localized extra breast tissue. Most of this is centered under the nipple and areolar region. This is where the main gland was located. The fat tapers from this thicker region to surrounding regions.
Not shown is the flat hand pressure portion of the examination. A general impression of the density of the tissue can be felt. Gland is often much firmer than the fat. Gland can also be diffusely mixed with the fat.
Tensing and loosening the pectoral muscles can demonstrate the muscle and highlight the excess tissue especially with the pinch test. Dr Bermant examines the tissue as part of his plan for surgical sculpture. This permits him to build a contour map for the operation.
