Hair style before surgery hides ear asymmetry.
After otoplasty ear surgery, many patients feel better about wearing their hair differently.

This patient wanted surgery only on her right ear. Asymmetry is common and can look unusual. Although otoplasty is more commonly done on both ears, one sided set back operations can be done. This operation was done with anterior scoring and sutures pulling the fold back.

Notice the limited swelling and bruising on the photograph 1 week after surgery. The improvement in position is immediately obvious. 4 weeks after surgery the ear looks normal.
Comparing a side that had otoplasty ear surgery to the other that had no ear surgery can reveal the skill of the ear sculpture.

Photograph of hidden incision behind ear 12 days after surgery.
Notice how little bruising and swelling are present only 6 days after surgery. By 18 days, there is little swelling left.
Head band after surgery protects the ear repair.
A soft gently fitting headband needs to be worn to protect the ear after the dressing comes off.
