I would like to share my experience regarding my Gynecomastia surgery performed by Dr. Bermant:

After several years of considering gynecomastia surgery, and browsing through websites reading the surgery, I had never felt comfortable enough to actually make a call to a Dr. I had always felt that there were too many unanswered questions in the websites, and I really didn't even know what to start asking when and if called. Dr. Bermant's website popped up in December when I was again searching plastic surgery sites. It was in Virginia, which is a 6-7 hour drive for me, but the site seemed to be particularly detailed regarding all of their surgeries, so I read on. When I was finished I felt like I had learned more from Dr. Bermant's website that I had from all websites combined. It made me feel more comfortable about the surgery itself, but I also felt more comfortable about trusting Dr. Bermant to actually perform it because it was obvious that he had the patients needs and concerns in mind when the site was created.

The first phone call was a pleasant experience, I was given detailed answers to all of my questions. I never felt rushed, or pressured to do any more than just ask questions and make my own decision.

After meeting with Dr. Bermant in person, I felt even more comfortable. The staff is small and friendly, and very importantly, they respected my privacy and made no discussion of my condition in front of patients in the waiting room. I went into a private office, and had a long and very very detailed consultation with Dr. Bermant. Again, no pressure to have it done, just sincere conversation. The guy is the ultimate professional, and not chasing quick money.

The Surgery was scheduled, and my day arrived. It was a weekend, with the building almost empty. The staff was again very small and very respectful of privacy, and very professional. From my conversations with the anesthesia tech, and the nurses, I realized that this was a highly trained, confident staff. The surgery went off without any complications whatsoever, and when I awoke, I noticed an immediate improvement. I was so immediately satisfied. Later, I wore the compression vest for a while as directed, but when I took it off I was surprised to see an unusual lack of bruising. For anyone that has seen after photos in bodybuilding magazines knows what I am talking about. I was expecting to be black and blue down to my waist. Not so at all, there was very minimal bruising. When the painkillers wore off, I was in some heavy pain for about an hour. All it took to make it subside was 2 Tylenol. The next morning, there was dramatically less pain, and faded each day thereafter

Eventually the dressings and bandages came off. I was happy to see a very small incision scar, that had appeared to be healing very rapidly. It has now been about 6 weeks. I have been following Dr. Bermant's instructions to the letter, and am very happy to say that it wont be long before The incision will be almost undetectable. My normal chest sensation has all returned. I have already had my shirt off in front of people without the surgery ever being noticed.

With my new chest contour, or lack of a bad one, I feel like a completely different person. I wasted so much time in the past worrying how certain shirts look on me, or how I looked to other people with my shirt off. It was particularly disturbing for me, because I did have a quality physique, with two obvious deformities. It cost me total around $4000, which I'm sure can vary up or down. This was absolutely the best money ever spent for my piece of mind and appearance. I seriously would have paid double for the results I obtained. I am totally looking forward to the summer without having thoughts about my chest shape lingering in the background of every situation. If you are a bodybuilder of fitness enthusiast: The correction of this condition will do more for the overall aesthetics and appearance of your physique than another year in the gym. Your physique will completely transform after the surgery. You really will wonder why you took so long to make the decision.

Besides the fact that the surgery was performed flawlessly, the experience itself was very satisfying. I did not at any one time feel that my privacy wasn't paramount, nor did I ever feel I did not understand what was going on. This staff, and this Dr. and incredible. I am not the type to write a letter like this, for one just because it is not like me to, but two, because I never felt compelled to. I felt I owed Dr. Bermant and his staff these words to let them know how much their work is a appreciated. Don't consider the travel to be an inconvenience, you will be rewarded with unbelievable lasting results and a positive experience with a professional skilled staff.

P.S. Dr. Bermant even had arrangements for patients in a nearby, comfortable clean hotel, that was 10 minutes from the surgery site.

Travel from New York City for Gynecomastia Surgery Night Before Surgery

Hey all.

I have been a lurker on this site for a couple years now and have PMed a few people.... and now, I am here to tell my story!

I am actually sitting in the hotel room in VA with my chest marked up for my surgery tomorrow morning. Had pre-op appt today and went over all the final details with Bermant and Jane (the office manager) and took pictures both with and without markings for his use in the surgery.

I will give a thorough recap of my experience from beginning to end, like others have, in a day or so and post pictures once I get them (I took some pics on my own that I will also post). Just to post some of my stats: I'm 21, 5'10, 145 really skinny (one of the skinnier people here I believe, lol). I really don't have much fat around the nipple/areola region, but have, my favorite term,"Puffy Nipples."  As thankful as I am for being skinny and not having more fat on my chest, it has been hard to deal with the puffyness of my nipples because I feel they stand out more with having less fat around it. I hate taking off my shirt, wearing just a t-shirt and doing anything that make the protruding more obvious.

I have been somewhat battling with doing the surgery or not for the past several years (because it is not evident when I am wearing the proper clothes and they are nonexistent when stimulated or cold) but I basically have about a 6 week gap in life, haha, and thought doing the surgery now was the perfect timing and didn't want to pass up the opportunity. So I met Bermant back in May, scheduled my surgery and am now here in VA excited and only minuscule-ly nervous about tomorrow.

Seeing posts from real people who have gone through this before have made this whole process so much easier. Reading a post from someone who has already completed their surgery (both a while back and recently and especially with the same PS!) is very reassuring that everything will be simple and easy.

Thanks to all for sharing their experiences and excited to share mine.

Travel from New York City for Gynecomastia Surgery Day of Operation

I'm Alive!

Done with surgery and heading to bed. Some pain started after the local anesthesia, but nothing unbearable (even went to the movies this afternoon). Getting to bed now and post-op appt with Dr. Bermant tomorrow morning and then heading back home.

Will write the complete story by Thursday and post pics as I get them.

As of now, without seeing anything, definitely happy I went through with the surgery and excited to see my results and for my recovery!

Travel from New York City for Gynecomastia Surgery 2 Days After Operation

Back home... dealing with some soreness but not too bad and definitely happy with my results and everything so far. The comp I am writing on is hard to use because the keyboard  and mouse are a little too high up to be comfortable to reach. So, I'm going to make this really short.

Travel from New York City for Gynecomastia Surgery 8 Days After Operation

So, to hopefully help others in the future, I want to share my overall experience of the surgery thus far:

Research
As I said in a previous post regarding my stats. I am 21, 5'10" and 145 lbs. I live in NYC and my parents live in NJ. I have been very fortunate and thankful that my parents have been in complete support of me doing this surgery from the beginning and have helped both financially and, for lack of a better term, physically (having helped with driving to VA, being there to support me and helping aid in some decisions.

I developed gyne during puberty at around 13 or so and my doctor said it would probably go away withing a few years. It never did. I always thought it would go away because I sort of went through puberty late, but like I said before, it never did. lol I would do some searching on the web every now and then for back like 2 years ago and but not really committing to it and then it just slowly became more and more important to me and started to read the forums here and start researching about surgery and doctors. I had done all the research necessary to begin the process of seeking out doctors and was looking at both Dr. Bermant and some doctors in NY (because of the location and their reputation). I new that solely from his website and all of his praise here, I already was leaning towards using Bermant as my PS, but I really didn't want to make any final decisions before what might be considered "over-analyzing" everything

Consultation
So my mom and I (only because she mentioned she wanted to meet him as well) drove down to VA in May to meet with Dr. Bermant. At the consultation, I first filled out the normal multi-paged background of my health in the waiting room and then went in to get weighed, height measured, Body Fat percentage... Dr. Bermant came in and we discussed everything from the causes of gyne to the realistic outcomes of the surgery. He also took measurements of each areola and did drawings of my chest for his records. He informed me what having surgery at his office would be like and how I could expect recovery and healing would be.

I would suggest to anyone who is able to do the consultation in person. I found it very helpful to both see with my own eyes how well-organized his process is as well as getting to meet Dr. Bermant in person. I found that my trip down to VA was very helpful in making my decision to both go through with the surgery and to use Dr. Bermant.

After my consultation, I took a little time to think over everything and when I realized with my schedule now (having a month and a half off - which was over-the-top enough time to have a relaxing recovery) and the time limitations of my career in the future I had to do the surgery now. I scheduled the surgery and got all the paperwork about what things to avoid 2 weeks before surgery.

Pre-op
This time I drove down to VA with both my parents, they were able to come down and I was very happy to have both of their support down their. Went to my appt the morning before surgery. Got the circle markings on my chest, signed some paperwork, went over all final details... as Jane, the office manager and the nicest woman in the world said, they wanted us to have everything completed the day before surgery so that on the day of, we could come in relaxed and have nothing to think about except being relaxed. Finished up and then had the rest of the day off to enjoy in VA. My parents went to the pool/jacuzzi but since I had the markings on my chest and lets face it, like everyone else here, I rarely ever go swimming, just stayed in the room and napped.

Surgery
Got to Bermant's office and almost immediately went in to meet with Jim, the Anesthesiologist. He went over all the info about the medicines (including Propofol and he joked a little about the Michael Jackson case). He was great at putting me at ease that morning. My parents came in to finalize everything with him and then I said my "final goodbyes" haha and went to the recovery room to put the gown on and get the IV. Jim actually did something I have never seen before which was to inject a small, I guess, local anesthesia into the side where the IV was going so I wouldn't feel the IV. It was very helpful, though he first tried to put the IV into a vein that ended up not working (he said something about it curling up, I don't know exactly) and then tried a different vein that work perfectly (I didn't feel the IV at all becuase of the injection). I met Kim, my nurse, he started giving me the meds and we went to the operating room. I laid down and got strapped in and started to dose off. I remember Dr. Bermant coming in and then asking me to think of a place I want to vacation after this was all done and describe it...

Next thing I knew I was in the recovery room getting a bottle of water with a straw from Jim. From everything I have been told from the office staff and what they told my parents the surgery actually took a little longer than expected simply because Dr. Bermant took a lot of time to do each side perfectly. He spent around an hour and a half on each side and after the 3 hours of surgery it took about an hour for me to wake up enough to leave. Apparently I was joking and singing after surgery, went to the bathroom twice (even having a fight with Jim about not wanted to sit down on the toilet because I didn't need to, but he made me sit, haha). I don't remember any of that, but I am sure it happened.

Jim showed me my glands, I put my clothes back on, my parents came in and I was put in a wheel chair and wheeled out. Went back to the hotel planning on taking a nap, but I couldn't sleep (not because of excruciating pain, I was just restless), so my mom and I went to see a movie. We came back, had dinner, saw another movie on TV and went to bed. I took meds throughout the day and definitely had some discomfort. It started as just soreness but once the local anesthesia wore off I had a stinging cut feeling on both sides. But hey, I was cut on both sides, what do you expect?

Post-op
Went the next morning, took of the compression vest and took pictures. I was very happy that I didn't have and bruising and only a tiny bit of swelling. I am sure the morning after appt is more "ground-breaking" for those patients who had a more serious case, but since I really only had puffy nipples, with the gauze dressing still on, I couldn't see the end results and knew I had to wait a week to see them. Talked with both Dr. Bermant and Jane and my only worry over the next week was to relax.

Dressing removal
Over the week I basically just watched a bunch of movies that I had rented before I left and from On Demand... I will admit that the pain was prevalent for me this first week, but I don't have a high pain tolerance and with meds (primarily Tylenol during the day and the pain killer at night), I was able to get through the week without too much agony.

I originally was going to fly down for the dressing removal, but my Mom once again offered to drive down with me (I gratefully took the offer). At the appt, Dr. Bermant removed the dressings (which was somewhat painful/annoying... he basically took off a huge band-aid across the entire surgery site) and I was able to see my chest for the first time. I remember before even looking at the mirror in front of me, I looked down at my chest and saw a completely flat areola with a normally protruding nipple. I believe the first thing I said was, "Wow." Looked at the mirror and saw that everything was flat, no more puffyness. I will admit that at first glance the scar on both sides was slightly longer than I had hoped (nothing more than others here or on his website, just not one of the "small ones"), but hey, I know Dr. Bermant did a perfect job and I knew I was going to have a scar... it will fade over time.

Dr. Bermant did another round of measuring to compare to the first ones back in May. Not only did both sides get smaller but they are both significantly more equal and size and appear to be more symmetrical on my chest. I forget was unit of measurement he was using (I think cm) but the largest change was the depth of the protrusion outward from my chest which I believe on both sides went from 8 to 3 and from the looks of it in simple terms, I'm flat.

We took more pictures, which I will post when I get them and did a little anonymous interview into his video-camera... where I explained that my chest looked like how it did when my nipples were cold or stimulated, when everyone describes it looking like they didn't have any gynecomastia, that's what I had, no gynecomastia.

**I also mentioned how helpful this forum has been and how I hope I can aspire people to help in the same way and that I can be of some assistance or inspiration to those in the future.**

Well, if you read this whole novel of a post, I hope I gave a good layout of my experience. I think this post will be good for me to remember 20 years down the line as a way to see all the details of the surgery.

As I have said before, thanks to all who have helped me with their posts and I hope to help others with mine.

Next comes, so more pics for you (of my 6 day post-op appt) and then I'll post maybe once a month or so here to keep posted as well as answer any questions.

Travel to Virginia from New York for Gynecomastia Surgery

Dear Dr. Bermant,

I want to thank you and your entire staff, especially Jane, for making my surgical experience so pleasant, pain-free and successful.

As soon as I got off the operating table it was apparent that you had succeeded in correcting my chest contour defects. I am only one week out from the operation and my chest looks even better as each day goes by!

You and your staff provided a level of care, professionalism and attention to detail that I have not experienced elsewhere. I am 100% confident that I made the right choice in traveling from New York to Virginia to have you perform my surgery and would strongly advise others to do the same.

Warmest regards,

D

NY Gynecomastia Travel from Upstate New York for Male Breast Reduction: Before Surgery

Hey guys, so here is my background story...
I have had gyno since 13 and I am 20 now. I am  5'10 145 pounds. Used to play on the soccer and basketball team at age 14 and remember getting my balls busted alot for my gyno...haha got all sorts of unoriginal nicknames like d-cups. For things where I had to take my shirt off like gym class swimming, I would always try to pinch my nips to make them hard, since this would make gyno less noticeable. Other than the few instances where I could not avoid it, I would never taken my shirt off in public for the last 6 years, and so none of my friends at home/ at college  know that I have this problem. Even the most minor things in my life would have to be adjusted as a result of gyno, like skipping out on waterparks/swimming parties, bringing my clothes into the bathroom when I took a shower etc.

If I told anyone that I was having this surgery, they'd think I was crazy, since I am so skinny everywhere else and since my gyno is not noticeable at all with my shirt on. It's definitely inhibited me from doing a lot of things, like swimming, being more confident, and playing sports that have the chance of being 'shirt vs. skins'. I really didn't think about it at all till this year, since it became normal to plan everything in my life around not taking off my shirt at all costs. So I guess it became a type of repressed problem. Moreover, I always had hope that by 19-20 it would resolve itself, as most pediatrician say.

Anyways, this past year has been really significant for me, as I've tried to make a lot of positive changes in my life and be a more pro-active person. In March I resolved to do this surgery, and so started saving up all of my money from work. Through various means, I came up w/ the money for the surgery. I haven't told my parents or any friends, and told them I am going to VA for a vacation. I am from the new england area.

Cliffs:
-Had gyno since 13 years old, and am 20 now.
-Decided to do surgery w/ Bermant after reading his site, and the experiences on here. I have heard great things from everyone who went to him, so I am excited for this opportunity.

NY Gynecomastia Travel from Upstate New York for Male Breast Reduction: Day of Surgery

Just had the surgery today! Went phenomenally! Will post pics in the next few days, and keep updating along the whole way.

My surgery was scheduled for 2 pm. Slept about 4 hours because of the nerves and woke up around 10 am. Took a quick shower and went to Walgreens to fill up my prescription for Lortab and grabbed some extra strength tylenol to have ready after the surgery .For those traveling to Richmond, there is a cab service here called Chester Shuttle that will take you from your hotel to Bermant's office for 16 dollars one way, 8 dollars return.  I was super paranoid about punctuality so I got in at around noon to the office. As w/ everyone elses experience, Jane is just a genuinely wonderful person, and just has a positive presence. Then finally at two I went to the office, changed into the gown and relaxed. Kim the nurse, and Jim the anesthesiologist are really friendly, personable people and we chatted it up for a bit before he put the IV in. I was given a drug to relax, and then walked over to the OR table. They strap your arms outward so that you can't fidget or twitch during surgery (even though you are fully sedated).  Dr. Bermant then came in and asked me what my dream vacation location is, and after answering that I was out-cold within about 60 seconds. The surgery took about 2 hours, and I woke up (best sleep I ever had) with very minimal pain. Jim showed me the gland- on one side there was a fairly significant (though not huge by any means) amount of gland and on the other just a little bit. I was surprised that my gyno was mostly fat, seeing that I am 5'9 145 and 12% Body fat. I guess that may be the result of my genetics and the way I am built (my dad kind of has a similar body type to me). Maybe that means I need to make some dietary changes and work out more. The nurse then took me back to my hotel room (am here now). He is tight and mad chill. We grabbed some dinner at this Italian restaurant first. So hear I am now, posting this, and man does it feel amazing to never have to worry about this problem again. The surgery may have costed xx, and not to sound overly dramatic, but is totally worth it. W/o gyno, I will definitely be inspired to take great care of body, start lifting weights and eating healthy, and have a major confidence boost. I cannot wait to go swimming and to beaches- this is something I haven't done in 7 years! The pain is a little bit after the surgery- I took an extra strength tylenol, but still had a headache (probably bc I hadn't eaten or drinkin in 18 hours, and I compulsively drink water) so I took a Lortab. I guess the best way to describe the pain is like delayed-onset muscle soreness after a chest workout + the feeling of getting tittie twister. Now I am sitting here just plain chillin and writing this.

BEST OF LUCK to everyone on this forum. I learned about the surgery in March, but figured it was something I would consider years down the line when I started working full time. Then on July 4th weekend I definitively decided it was time to control my life, and said to myself I will do it ASAP, w/o telling any family or friends. And one month later, it is gone! Aah, well, now back to the real world and studying for the MCAT's and workin on my med school applications.

NY Gynecomastia Travel from Upstate New York for Male Breast Reduction: 1 Day After Surgery

wow, i saw my results today- looks totally flat. I don't have a camera w/ me here in VA so I'll have to wait till I get home back home to post pics. But the chest area looks great. He said he removed 110 CC's of fat from one side, and 115 CC's from another using lipo. Gland was taken from both sides- one side had more than the other. But it was not a large amount from either side.

My only concern is that my body has some kind of natural tendency to put ALL its fat on the chest area (since I am only 21 on the BMI scale and 12% B.F., yet still had pretty bad gyno from mostly chest-fat.) I am really skinny everywhere else. This worries me slightly that it will come back, but hopefully w/ good diet and workouts it won't...

NY Gynecomastia Travel from Upstate New York for Male Breast Reduction: 2 Days After Surgery

actually the extra incision was to remove gland if i remember correctly. Apparently on that side of the chest, the gland was small enough that he thought he could liposuction it. But this did not work as it was too firm, so he made a small incision in the areola and tried to take it out. But the gland was positioned vertically ( which is atypical), and so he made another very small incision site ( the extra one you see) to remove it. Apparently though, the length of the incision from that spot + the incision he made on the areola is the same as the incision made on the areola on the other side of the chest.

pains totally fine- he gives a script for 20 Lortab. I took 1 Lortab and maybe 6 tylenol so far. I don't like the feeling of pain pills, and get bad ups and downs taking them, so I tossed the rest before leaving VA.

Dr. Bermant responds:

A remote site is typically for managing fat. Liposuction does not manage gland. I rarely need an extra incision by the armpit. When possible I prefer to avoid the extra scar. However when the fat is too dense, the option is to extend the incision at the edge of the areola or add one at a remote site.

Thank you for discussing your experiences with our services and surgical sculpture.

Travel to Virginia from New York for Gynecomastia Surgery

Dear Dr Bermant,
I would like to see if I could arrange a consultation and surgery for the beginning of January. My concern is whether or not surgery at the beginning of January would be trouble for me going on a cruise February 20th. What would a normal recuperation time entail? I realize that the sun would not be good for scars; however I am not a sun person. I am looking to travel from NYC, having a consultation and then following up the next day with surgery. I have read in the gynecomastia.org posts that most are able to go home in the next day or 2. I will be traveling via Amtrak, or flying.
Thank you in advance for your time and information.

J
Forest Hills, NY

Dr. Bermant responds:

Recovery and activities after gynecomastia surgery depend on the problem to be treated, sculpture techniques needed, how you heal and other factors. Patients have told me that they enjoyed going on a relaxing cruise shortly after surgery, but normal healing after any operation can limit activities. The After Gynecomastia Compression Garment is more comfortable at cooler temperatures or at least with air conditioning. For our NYC patients who want to limit travel to Virginia, we recommend our Preliminary Remote Discussion to start the process. Then a tentative surgery can be scheduled.

Jane is my office manager and will be glad to help with what time we have available. She can normally be reached at our office by phone Monday - Friday 9-5 Eastern Time at (804) 748-7737.

Travel to Virginia from New York for Gynecomastia Surgery

Hello. I'm interested in the male breast reduction. I have seen several doctors here in the New York City area. I'm not completely comfortable with any of them. They all told me the same thing however. I have a little bit of gyno, and the surgery definitely can help me. They have all quoted me the same price of 5,000. My questions are this:

1) what kind of time frame to setup a surgery

2) the cost

3) can you tell me about bruising, about how long will i have it

I do work out a lot and I am in good shape. For some reason my chest is always lagging behind. The doctors told me that some people just have fat in hard to lose places and this is my case. I'm a little weary about it because 5,000 is a lot for me and I don't want to have the surgery and then say to myself, 'wow, not much of a change'. It would also be tough for me to come to Virginia more than once. Maybe I can send pictures and you can review my case this way. Thanks for any info.

J

Dr. Bermant responds:

We see many patients from New York and around the world who prefer my techniques. Our schedule tends to vary and time until surgery depends on many factors. Jane is my office manager and can better discuss typical costs. She can normally be reached at our office by phone Monday - Friday 9-5 Eastern Time at (804) 748-7737.

Here is a Picture Gallery of typical Bruising and Swelling for Dr. Bermant's gynecomastia patients.

Change with surgery varies with the problem to be treated. Subtle gynecomastia usually only needs subtle changes while massive breasts need a big change for contouring.

We are glad to evaluate photographs during our Preliminary Remote Discussion.

Travel to Virginia from New York State for Stress of Gyno and Surgery

Dr. Bermant,

I'm 23, 5'11", 165 lbs, and in good shape. I live in New York state. My gyno history is long. I've had it since age 8. My problem isn't nearly as exaggerated as others on your site, but it still causes me a lot of distress. When I was 21, I had lipo done on my chest in Bangkok to little effect. I also did a mild steroid cycle around the same time after doing a lot of research. Even on low doses of Sustanon, and high doses of Nolvadex (60mg a day!), my glands enlarged substantially. I'm interested in excision and probably corrective lipo, since I don't have much faith that the Thai doctor knew what he was doing.

Questions I have:

I have a three day weekend Feb 19-21. Will you be operating on any of these days?

What do you charge (I know you can only roughly estimate).

What would you charge if I had abdominal lipo and flank lipo done at the same time? (again, I know this is can only be a guess).

I'm weighing whether to pay more and do it locally, or to fly down to you and save a buck.

Also, what days are best for setting up the $200 phone consultation. I can provide chest shots digitally if necessary.

Thanks for your time and for the great website!

C

Dr. Bermant responds:

LIposuction preferentially removes fat instead of gland and we see many patients who were unhappy with surgery done in Asia and around the world. Many patients travel from the New York region for my revision techniques.

Revision Gynecomastia Surgery tends to be more complex than primary. Jane is my office manager and can better discuss typical costs and fees. She can normally be reached at our office by phone Monday - Friday 9-5 Eastern Time at (804) 748-7737.

Standard Pictures for Revision Gynecomastia surgery are used during our our Preliminary Remote Discussion.

We look forward to helping you explore your concerns.

Travel from New York for Dr. Bermant's Gynecomastia Surgery

Hello Doctor Bermant

I live in New York, and I'm looking into Gynecomastia surgery. I'm 18 years old, and in good shape, I've been working out for years, mostly for my high school football team. After breaking my leg in sixth grade, I got chubby, and developed nipples that look to be Gynecomastia like... I thought they would go away as I lost weight and got strong, but they haven't. They look like knobs when I wear T-Shirts, and are very unappealing, and embarrassing, and it's annoying, because, otherwise, I am proud of my body. I never thought of plastic surgery before, but, my 'solution' of taping my bulging nipples down with athletic tape every morning isn't a long term option. After some research, I found your site, and was impressed with the work done there: I think this could be the answer to what has been the only real inhibition to my self esteem. Through high school, I've been shy around pools and the ocean, which I formerly loved, because of this self conscience feeling about my chest.

My parents are supportive, but I have some questions. Do I need to pay for the procedure all at once? Should I send pictures of my chest from the angles you have on your website, before coming down to Virginia? When is the soonest an appointment could be scheduled for?

I'm looking forward to what I hope will be an answer to this problem of mine. Thanks for your time reading this. I look forward to your answer, and, soon after, the scheduling of an appointment. The sooner the better, I think.

From,

K

Dr. Bermant responds:

Taping gynecomastia can cause permanent scars. Body Shaping Garments are safer.

We are glad to evaluate pictures and help you explore your concerns during a Preliminary Remote Discussion. The standard pictures for gynecomastia we use depends on the patient's problem.

New York Teenager with Large Nipple Glands

Dear Doctor,

I am fourteen years old and I live in New York. I have large nipple glands and I would like them removed. When I squeeze my nipple(s) I produce a clear substance.

sincerely,

S

Dr. Bermant responds:

We evaluate and treat many New York teens with gynecomastia. How old before gynecomastia surgery is a common question. At your age, this is something you need to discuss with your parents. If they agree, we are glad to help you explore your concerns during a consultation or preliminary remote discussion.

Hope this helps,

Michael Bermant, M.D.

New York Male Chest Reduction and Lipo of Waist

Hello, a question on a couple of procedures. I was interested in the male chest reduction surgery. I was also possibly interested in lipo of the waist. Since I live in New York I would like to be able to schedule both at the same time. My question is a) is this possible and b) since both are being performed at the same time would it save me any money with anesthesia, 2 for 1 deal, etc... Thanks.

J

Dr. Bermant responds:

Many of our New York patients prefer to combine chest and waist contouring operations to minimize travel. My office staff will be glad to discuss the savings of combining the surgery.

Hope this helps,

Gynecomastia Manhattan New York - Travel for Dr. Bermant's Expertise

Dr. Bermant,

I am a 21 year-old college student in New York City, and I'm thinking about seeking help for my Gynecomastia. I am 6 feet tall, weigh around 168, and am quite athletic (i.e. I run 5-6 miles 5 days a week). I lost a good deal of weight as a teenager but no matter how much I exercise my chest, I maintain an excess of fat in my upper body (I believe that it is fat rather than glandular tissue). Gynecomastia has resulted in my remaining physically self-concious even in spite of my serious exercise regimen, and interferes with the running that I greatly enjoy.

I understand that mine is a relatively minor case, and I know that I'm young to be considering surgery. After a lot of thought, however, I believe that I'd like to cure this problem sooner rather than later; I would prefer not go through my 20's with a physical issue that bothers me on a daily basis. Basic research confirms that you're not only an expert on this problem, but one of the best doctors in the country at repairing it.

I have consulted with a plastic surgeon here in Manhattan but have heard of your reputation and would consider coming down to Virginia to have the procedure performed. Would it be possible for you to provide a preliminary analysis of how you think you might deal with my problem (i.e. liposuction only, glandular excision, etc.)? Additionally, a ballpark cost estimate would be enormously helpful.

Thank you so much for your help

All the best,

C

Dr. Bermant responds:

Gynecomastia contour deformity can cause great emotional stress. We do see many patients from Manhattan, NY and around the world who prefer my techniques. To minimize travel most prefer to start with our Preliminary Remote Discussion. Cost of surgery depends on the problem to be treated. Jane is my office manager and can better discuss typical costs and fees. She can normally be reached at our office by phone Monday - Friday 9-5 Eastern Time at (804) 748-7737.

We look forward to helping you explore your concerns.

New York Puffy Nipple Problem

hello Dr. Bermant i am currently looking to resolve a slight breast/puffy nipple problem that i am having. i am currently very fit and have visible abs so i doubt it is fat, although i want your professional opinion. i am currently in new york and on a tight schedule because i am working full time to pay for the procedure. please contact me with information about price and how we can set up an operation for sometime in august.

thank you,
m

Dr. Bermant responds:

It does not take much to distort the contour of someone very fit like a body builder with gynecomastia. I am glad to render a professional opinion during a consultation or Preliminary Remote Discussion. We see many patients from the New York region for Puffy Nipple Gynecomastia. Jane is my office manager and can better discuss prices and what time we have available. She can normally be reached at our office by phone Monday - Friday 9-5 Eastern Time at (804) 748-7737.

We look forward to helping you with your concerns.

Flying to Virginia from New York For Gynecomastia Surgery by Dr. Bermant

I have been studying your website for a couple of weeks and am very interested in your Gynecomastia procedure. I’m 37, 5”10” 170lbs and in good physical shape (not a bodybuilder but physically fit). I've had the problem for years and need to have it fixed as I'm self conscious about it.

I live in NY so I would have to fly to your office. How many trips would I have to make? Is it possible to do a consultation and then if you recommend surgery do it on the same trip (day or so after?)

Please let me know my options and I'll call your office to make an appointment asap.

Thank you so much for your time.

Dr. Bermant responds:

Most patients start with our preliminary remote discussion and come to Virginia just once. This telephone discussion permits us to schedule a tentative surgery that still requires the in office confirmatory examination the day before surgery. Options depend on the problem to be treated.

Hope this helps,

Michael Bermant, M.D.

New York Gynocomastia and Gaining Weight

Hello, My name is T. I am a 32 yr old male in New York, who is seeking to have surgery for gynocomastia. My breast grew very large after being in a car accident and gaining weight. My chest is now between a B or C cup size for a woman. I'm tired of getting the run around from my insurance company and I would like to do this for myself as soon as possible. I am extremely busy with my career and would like to know how to best expedite this.

Thank you.

Dr. Bermant responds:

Overweight men tend to have breasts. Weight loss before plastic surgery is typically better than losing weight after the operation. We are glad to help you explore your options during a consultation or preliminary remote discussion.

Hope this helps,

Michael Bermant, M.D.

Coming from New York for Gynecomastia Surgery

I am considering the surgery , how do I go about taking pictures to see if I am a candidate. Being I am coming from NY, also I would be interested in doing a next /same day surgery after the initial consultation.

A major concern is training in the gym what is the typical recovery period before i can resume my exercise routine for the total body not associated with the surgery and for the chest .

Dr. Bermant responds:

We have online guides to taking pictures for evaluation, which one depends on the problem to be treated.

Standard Photographs for Gynecomastia

Standard Pictures for Male Chest Lift Contouring after Weight Loss

Standard Pictures for Gynecomastia Revision Surgery

To schedule an operation you will need to either start out with our Preliminary Remote discussion or have an in office evaluation. After the remote discussion, we can schedule a tentative surgery that still needs an in office confirmatory examination before I can agree that surgery is reasonable. The other option is to have an in office exam and then schedule surgery for the next available time. This time is usually several weeks away.

We prefer techniques with minimal bruising and swelling to minimize recovery time. Return to activities after surgery depends on many factors we are happy to discuss during your evaluation.

We look forward to helping you explore your concerns.

Gynecomastia Surgery from Upstate New York

Hi,

I'm interested in scheduling a consult to be evaluated for gynecomastia surgery. I live in upstate NY, but would like to do a consult in person. A major concern of mine, though, before I go forward with scheduling a consult is a possible surgery date. My work schedule is such that late feb/early march allow for me to take the amount of vacation necessary for a proper recovery. If after a consult the Dr. believes I'm a candidate for the surgery is a feb/march surgery date a realistic expectation? I look forward to your response and thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
D

Dr. Bermant responds:

Time for recovery depends on the problem to be treated, surgical techniques needed, and other factors we are glad to help you explore during your evaluation. Almost all of our patients are back to simple activities the day after surgery. We see many patients from Upstate NY who come to Virginia for their surgery and then vacation. However, this is real surgery and tissue does need time before it can be heavily stressed.

We are glad to help you better understand your options.
