Re: Travel to Virginia for Tummy Tuck After C-Sections
Dear Dr Bermant,
I have viewed your site and am impressed with the works that I have seen. I am intrested in coming to Virginia and having a tummy tuck abdominoplasty done. I've had 2 c-sections due to having twins with my first pregnancy but I am not prone to keloid. I am overweight but not grossly, should I attempt to shed most of the weight or not before this procedure?
I am concerned that I may not have saved enough money to have the procedure and would like to know how to begin this process to know what I need to get this procedure done maybe in two or three months if possible.
I am a registered nurse and don't necessarily won't to do a full recooperation in Virginia. I know that will depend on the outcome of the surgery and any complications that may ensue afterward but I am anxious to get started. Please let me know about and cost of the procedure approximately. I am looking forward to this being one of the best years of my life. Thank you in advance for your information.
Dr. Bermant responds:
Thank you for your comments about my Tummy Tuck Abdominoplasty Sculpture. Many of our out of town patients have a limited stay here in Virginia completing their recovery at home. Weight loss before surgery is often better than weight loss after surgery. Weight loss is a coarse tool, you can't pick where the weight comes from. Tummy Tuck Abdominoplasty is the fine tool. We are glad to help you explore your concerns during a consultation or preliminary remote package. This preliminary discussion seems particularly helpful for patients who travel a distance for my sculpture.
There are different costs depending on what needs to be done. My fee for a simple abdominoplasty and tightening of the stomach wall muscles can be found here. Jane is my office manager and can better discuss costs and other preliminary issues. She can normally be reached at our office by phone Monday - Friday 9-5 Eastern Time at (804) 748-7737.

Re: Tummy Tuck From Trinidad and Tobago
Dear Dr Bermant,
I came across your website just a couple of days before i had my tummy tuck
done. I was scared but your website calmed my fears and helped me to realise
that tummy tuck do give good results. Today makes it three days since Ive
had my tummy tuck. I just want to let all those women out there whom are
considering it and are worrying about the results or pain , tummy tuck
produces good results and there is no really great amount of pain. I do
have discomforts on the sides of my hipbones where the stitches are and
it is relieved by medication. My doctor is great also. He has comforted
me and has been a tremendeous doctor. I am from Trinidad and Tobago and
we dont have much options of surgeons here. Thank you Dr Bermant for all
the information you posted which has helped me understand a great deal
about tummy tuck. I am still strapped up so i havent seen my stomach completely
yet but from what i do and can see i have excellent results.
Thank you for allowing me to share my story.
Dr. Bermant responds:
Thank you for your kind words about my Tummy Tuck Abdominoplasty Sculpture and good luck on your continued recovery.

Subj: Re: alternative to liposuction
Dear Dr
I read in a health magazine that there is a condition where the stomach musles can become stretched causing a "roll" that cannot be reduced by diet or exercise. It further stated this muscle can be stitched back into place and liposuction can be avoided. Is this true and if so what is the procedure and who performs it?
Thank you for any information you can provide.
Dr. Bermant responds:
Tummy Tuck Abdominoplasty is surgery where the skin is lifted off the muscle, the muscle fascia layer tightened with sutures, and then the skin stretched and the extra skin and fat removed. You can find an extensive introduction to this surgery here on this website.

Subj: : Abdominoplasty Cost
Hi! Could you tell me how much your adominoplasty cost? I'm 32 years old and had two pregnancies which resulted in leftover skin.
Thanks!
Dr. Bermant responds:
Abdominoplasty surgery comes in many different complexities. Mini-tummy tucks are nowhere as extensive as a major panniculectomy where the skin drapes down below the knees, and Body Lift Surgery is dealing with sculpture around the front, sides and back.. Prices for my surgeon's fee varies with the complexity. The smallest surgeries can be done under local anesthesia in an office setting. More extensive surgery is under general anesthesia. Because to this variation, pricing this surgery requires the examination and evaluation of an office based consultation. We have an extensive educational package where our patients explore the risks, benefits, and alternate methods of care. Once I know what you need, we can give specific prices.

Subj: : Tummy Tucks Difference Between Mini Tuck and Tummy Tuck
Hi,
I am a mother of five children. I would like to have a better looking tummy. I have read about tummy tucks, but I am confused. What is the difference between a mini tummy tuck, a tummy tuck, and a full tummy tuck?
Thanks for your help!
L
Dr. Bermant responds:
A "tummy tuck" is the name for a whole family of operations to restore the appearance of the abdomen. Some of the operations are much less extensive than others. In a "mini - tummy tuck" the dissection is much less than a standard operation. The smaller operation is best for minimal problems of redundancy of the abdomen. There are larger abdominal dermatolipectomies where work needs to be extended to the back and extra tissue there. To best understand the issues and what your abdominal wall will need is best done in the office consultation and evaluation. An examination helps determine the anatomy of the problem and solutions then can be suggested. Your education would then continue with a discussion of risks benefits and alternate methods of care.

Subj: Tummy With Pannus
Hi there
My name is C, and I am from C... Canada...I was wondering if if because of my floppy tummy, (apron) would that cause my lower back to always have a dull aching pain?
I am 26 years old and have had 2 children and I have gotten my tubes tied, and now I am too embarrassed to go swimming because of this stretched dangling skin. I dont care about the stretch marks that does'nt bother me because I dont plan on wearing a bikini. I never have so why start now.
I have had alot of thought put into getting the proper surgery, but I would like to find out if the whole procedure can be covered by medical if it is a medical problem that needs to be corrected.
I am not an over weight person so I really find it heartening that I have this big flap of skin and the back pain to match.
I also am wondering if you know of any one close to me that you could recommend that I could talk to. My family Dr. totally disagrees with this procedure he said alot of sit ups would fix it but as yo uknow and I know, skin is not muscle and needs special treatment to be repaired.
I also want to know the full costs and if I could get the procedure financed or get a personal loan from the bank, or would they consider it silly?
I guess I just want to know what is the least expensive full abdominoplasty surgery that is not in some back alley somewhere.
Pateintly waiting for your reply,
C
Dr. Bermant responds:
This should not be construed as medical advice. I am a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.
Abdominodermatolipectomy (tummy tuck) or pannus reduction surgery is surgical sculpture that can remove folds of flesh. Such surgery is best after weight reduction and stabilization. Insurance coverage issues must be discussed with the doctor taking care of you. Exploring your options with a competent board certified plastic surgeon is a reasonable first step. An education of what such surgery has to offer helps establish realistic expectations.
I have no idea where you can get the "least expensive full abdominoplasty surgery that is not in some back alley somewhere". Be careful, in many cases you get what you pay for.
I am sorry the plasticsurgery4u website is an example of my commitment to patient education. We see patients from all over. My office staff and I must use our time to help our own patients and cannot provide a general referral service.

Subj: Loose Skin After Weight Loss
I am a 14 year old male. I've lost about 115 lbs in less than a year, and I have bad results from it. I have hangy skin everywhere. I'm 6 foot tall also. Should I wait for plastic surgery and see if my skin shrinks at all? Is that possible?
Sincerely,
M
Dr. Bermant responds:
If the weight was lost under the supervision of your doctor, GOOD FOR YOU. Massive weight reduction has many benefits, but it DOES leave a lot of loose skin all over the place. Plastic Surgery can help after massive weight loss. Learning the risks, benefits, and alternate methods of care is usually valuable. Surgery may be indicated now or after a period of stabilization. Some skin care may help with some of the shrinkage of the redundant skin. Such education is valuable for both you AND your parents. My office sees such patients during their weight reduction period to help with that education and skin care. An in office consultation gives me the opportunity to examine the patient and the problem and start the education process. See what your parents have to say.

Subj: Tummy Tuck vs Mini Tummy Tuck
What;s the difference between a mini- tummy tuck and the traditional tummy tuck?
Dr. Bermant responds:
This should not be construed as medical advice. I am a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.
A mini-tummy tuck is much less extensive surgery with less chance for improvement. Some patients do not have as extensive a problem as others. When the problem is not as severe, a mini-tummy tuck may be all that patient needs for the correction. The best way to determine what surgical options are possible for any one patient is with the in office examination and evaluation. After seeing the problem, I would be in a better position to advise about the risks, benefits and alternate methods of care.
