Traveling for surgery with Dr. Bermant coming in from the United Kingdom (UK) 3 days after surgery:

I thought I'd post my experiences of this week. Lots to say, but I'll try to keep it brief.
I've suffered from mild gynecomastia since I was 14; the problem was the puffy nipple, rather than actual breasts. Covered it up by wearing lots of layers, not taking off my shirt etc. So, several years ago I went to see a doctor, and after many referrals to other doctors, tests, and two years waiting, I had lipsuction on both sides (over here in the UK). After giving it a while to settle, I realised this hadn't affected the nipple area in any way.

This year (2 years after lipo) I'd decided I'd had enough, so went to see my new doctor. I saw 2 surgeons who had pretty much no idea what they were talking about, and seemed to be unable to do anything about it. Incredibly frustrating.

I knew there was a solution as I had come across Dr. Bermant's website, so I decided, instead of settling for something I might regret in some way, I'd go to Virginia where I knew there was a doctor who knew a lot about gynecomastia. Lots of people have traveled all that way, and I knew that flights from the UK can be even cheaper than domestic US flights. This is getting a bit long now, so I'll summarise:

Did a remote evaluation with Dr. Bermant, sent photos, booked my surgery. Flew in to Washington DC with a friend (take someone with you; it makes it SO much easier), stayed there for 2 days. Drove to Richmond on Monday, saw the doctor, surgery on Tuesday, flew home on Wednesday.

Dr. Bermant and his staff are as helpful and friendly as you can hope for. I wasn't in any way bruised or battered after surgery, and even went out for dinner and a movie. I was far worse off after the lipo. The worst thing is not being able to eat for a long time. It's now 2 days after, and I just feel like I've pulled a muscle. I'm careful not to do too much, but there's no discomfort. I shan't comment on the results yet: I'll wait until I take the dressing off next week, and then again when the steri-strips come off. But so far it looks great. I'm in a t-shirt, and I'm more than happy.

Bascially, I had a fantastic few days in DC then Richmond, which relaxed me for the operation. I was pretty scared traveling all that way for surgery, but in the end it was the best thing to do.

Traveling for surgery with Dr. Bermant coming in from the United Kingdom (UK) 11 days after surgery:

The bandages came off yesterday, so now I can see the nipple. I guess this is what they should have looked like all along.
There numb, but they've just been operated on, so what do you expect? There is some slightly hard tissue between each nipple towards the arm-pit, but I'm sure that will go with the scar care which Dr. Bermant teaches you to do.
Looking in a mirror, you'd have no idea I had gyne, I don't think. The soluble stitches should be on for a couple more weeks, then I should have a very good idea on how everything will turn out.

Traveling for surgery with Dr. Bermant coming in from the United Kingdom (UK) 3 weeks after surgery:

So, yesterday I took off the steri-strips (like stitches, but they go over the top of the wound rather than through the skin), to reveal the scar.....which isn't there. You'd be hard pressed to be able to tell I had an operation (3 weeks ago). Cool.

Massage of the tissues will start soon to get rid of the scar tissue.

Traveling for Gynecomastia Surgery with Dr. Bermant coming in from Wales, Great Britain - United Kingdom (UK) 4 weeks after surgery:

Dear Dr Bermant

I am writing to let you know that my progress is going very well, and to say i am very happy with the results so far would be an extreme understatement.

i have recently started the tissue massage and the scars are already hardly noticeable, the underlying tissue has started to soften up to. I am already wearing thin tshirts and clothes that i have wanted to wear which was'nt possible before. So i would like to thank you and your team very much for changing my life and i will let you know of my progress in due course.

Yours Sincerely

Dr. Bermant responds:

Thank you for letting us know about your experiences. We look forward to hearing about future progress

Travel from Dublin Ireland for Gynecomastia Surgery by Dr. Bermant 40 days after Male Chest Reduction Surgery:

Dr. Bermant,
H- here, just a little update on my progress since the operation on the 7th of January. All is good, all the bruising that was sustained post op cleared within two weeks and skin tone now is back to normal. I wore the compression garment continuously for 4 weeks and wear it only sporadically now. I also started the massaging of the area and the tissue beneath has started to soften as well, feeling has somewhat returned. I will send you pictures of my progress in the next week, as my digital cameras is on vacation!
The results are astounding, I am really really pleased with the outcome, I never expected it to heal so quickly, I never pushed the healing but I was back to work within the 2 weeks and no problems arose.
If you ever need me to write anything about my experiences etc for people thinking of contacting and researching you for surgery do not hesitate to ask, only too pleased! I was wondering if you could send me the photos of my extractions etc as an email attachment to remind me of what I had, always good to see.
Give all my regards to Jane, Tommy, Charles and your anesthetist (name I cannot remember due to my state!), all were so lovely and kind not to mention professional throughout.
Thank you again,
Kind regards, H

Travel from Chicago Illinois for surgery with Dr. Bermant - the following is posted with permission of our patient:

1 Week After Gynecomastia Surgery

I just removed the bandages and am 1-week post op from what appears to be a successful surgery to correct puffy nipples and glandular gynecomastia. My search for answers started with previous heads of Plastic surgery for University of Chicago and Northwestern University, as well as 3 other highly regarded surgeons from Chicago and one from Beverly Hills over a period of 14 years. To my dismay, the doctors provided inconsistent plans regarding cutting, partial or full removal of the gland, extent of liposuction as well as the anticipated results. "Spooning" and rippling of the chest were of concern and half of the surgeons recommended against any action at all, including one who was a family friend.

It wasn't until I talked to the professional and experienced Dr. Bermant that I felt confident enough to attempt a remedy. My case was one of “finesse” because of that fat flaps the Dr. needed to do in order to flatten the puffy nipples and create a consistent natural looking chest. At 5'11 and 155 pounds, I was formally inhibited from many light shirts and beach time (unless desolate). The prognosis out only one week is 100% different and only going to get better with the healing of the 1” scars and very minimal amount of bruising. I feel like I have been freed from jail after years being incorrectly convicted.

The surgery itself was made comfortable by the Dr.’s wonderful staff and convenient in office operating facilities. A few hours after the procedure I was eating at a restaurant without need for any pain medication. In fact, until now I have only had to take Tylenol a couple of times and 90% of my (mild) discomfort has come from the compression vest. Revealing my “new chest” today, as Dr. Bermant likes to call it, is a relief as well as a personal victory in a quest that has taken some diligence. With a little invested time with a skilled Doctor, such as Bermant, one can feel that the rewards for this procedure greatly outweigh the risks.

Travel across the US from Washington State for surgery with Dr. Bermant - 3 weeks after gynecomastia surgery

Hi Dr. Bermant,

I just wanted to let you know that I am extremely happy with your work on my new chest. It continues to look better every day that I look at it. My wife laughs at me because right when I get home from work I remove my vest and look at my chest for about 25 minutes. It still amazes me that your technique was so flawless.... once again thank you for all your knowledge and willingness to answer my questions.

Dr. Bermant responds:

Thank you for the kind words. Please keep us informed about your progress. Glad to hear you like your new chest.
