Subj: Re: liposuction

Dear Dr.

My mother has osteoporosis for the past two years. She also suffers from cervical spondylosis and is quiet overweight.I would like to know if she will benefit from a liposuction.

Dr. Bermant responds:

This should not be construed as medical advice. I am a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.

Liposuction is elective cosmetic surgery for localized fat collections. It is not a treatment for those who are overweight.

I hope this information proves of some use. If my office can be of further assistance, please let us know. We can be reached at: (804) 748-7737. My staff and I try to ensure the comfort of our out of town guests during their consultations and procedures.

Subj: Re: tummy lypo

hi
i am a 37yr old male i have a very big stumach for my height i was told that there is some kind of surgery i can have to reduce my size i have tried many diets to no avail could u please give me some info on the subject (lyposuction)

thank you

Dr. Bermant responds:

This should not be construed as medical advice. I am a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.

Liposuction surgery is for localized fat collections that just will not go away. I is not for weight reduction. Abdominodermatolipectomy (tummy tuck) is for extra flesh (skin and fat) of the abdomen and trunk. Some preliminary information can be found on my website. The best way to proceed after that is an in office evaluation and consultation.

I hope this information proves of some use. If my office can be of further assistance, please let us know. We can be reached at: (804) 748-7737. My staff and I try to ensure the comfort of our out of town guests during their consultations and procedures.

Subj: Re: preg after lipo

I want to have liposuction done on my stomach area in the near future, however, I plan to have more children later on (probably in about 5 years). Can you tell me if you CAN have children after liposuction in the stomach, and would it even be worth it?

K
Washington, DC

Dr. Bermant responds:

Liposuction can be used to contour the abdominal region. Many women have had pregnancies without problems after such surgery. Pregnancy can have many changes to the abdomen region. The risks, benefits, and various options (like deferring surgery until after pregnancy) are best discussed during an office examination and consultation.

I hope this information proves of some use. If my office can be of further assistance, please let us know. We can be reached at: (804) 748-7737. My staff and I try to ensure the comfort of our out of town guests during their consultations and procedures.

Subj: Re: liposculpt

Michael Bermant:

My name is D. I am wondering the dangers of such a procedure. I am a large man. 298lb. to be percise and about 6'2. I am tired of living life the way I am. Would it be feasible to remove most of my excess fat in one procedure. Also I would like to know how much such a procedure would cost. Money is not the issue, however I would like to have a ball park figure of what we are looking at here. I understand that is would be just an estamate, and may not be accurate.

Midland, TX

I would appreciate your help in this situation. You don't have to talk me into the procedure, for I am ready. I would just like to be educated on the finer details.

D

Dr. Bermant responds:

This should not be construed as medical advice. I am a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.

Liposuction is for localized fat removal and body sculpture, not for major fat reduction. Large volume liposuction can have major risks. Our liposuction surgery prices depend on how much needs to be done. Some only need the "love handle" zone, others just the abdominal region. Yet others need much more work. Price depends on the extent of the work. The type of anesthesia and location of surgery are other factors. Such information is best determined during an office consultation. Please call my office staff for more details.

Subj: Re: lyposuction

hi,
I would like to know how much lyposuction would cost for the my butt, thighs, belly and hips!!! Either seperately or together!! Please mail me back w/ the prices of these things!! Thank-you!

Dr. Bermant responds:

This should not be construed as medical advice. I am a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.

Liposuction surgery is a generic name for many types of surgical sculpting. Liposuction prices and our surgeon's fee depends on what needs to be done. The best way to find out what liposuction has to offer is to have a consultation in our office. Once we understand what you are asking for, we can be much more specific with surgical prices. If interested in learning more, call our office Monday and our office staff will try to help. There is some preliminary information on my extensive website.

Subj: Re: Liposuction

Hi Doctor, I'm a 31 year old female, and I had liposuction of the arms two weeks ago, they are still sore, but my concern is that I have developed some type of rippling and hardness under the skin where the fat was removed and is very tender to the touch. My plastic surgeon says that I have very good skin elasticity. Will this hardening and rippling go away eventually? Is there anything I can do to help the area maybe massage daily? please respond at your earliest convenience.
thank-you

Dr. Bermant responds:

This should not be construed as medical advice. I am a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.

There is a great deal going on after liposuction. Injured tissue starts healing and bruised nerves start coming back online. Some firmness can be part of the healing process others signs of a problem. Without knowing about your case nor examining you I have no idea. Nerves that were injured enough during surgery can become hypersensitive - tender to stimulation like touch. This can resolve very quickly or take some time depending on the degree of injury and how they heal.

Why not ask your doctor? If my patients had such a question, I would want them to call me. Each doctor has their own preferences for the way they operate and perform after surgery care. For my own patients I can describe a basic healing process for what I have done and various treatment programs for the after surgery optimization tissue recovery.

Subj: Re: lyposuction

Could you please tell me the dangers or risks of lyposuction? If too much fat is removed all at once, what effect could that have on your metabolism, if any? Can it create an imbalance in your bodies hormone levels? How much fat can be removed safely?

Dr. Bermant responds:

This should not be construed as medical advice. I am a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.

Liposuction can be major surgery with significant changes in metabolism or minimal surgery depending on what needs to be done. The limits of "safe" liposuction are evolving after the development of the tumescent technique. Preliminary information about liposuction is already on my website.

After this information you may want to continue your education with an in office examination and evaluation. During this discussion of the risks, benefits, and alternate methods of care such questions are best answered INDIVIDUALLY.

I hope this information proves of some use. If my office can be of further assistance, please let us know. We can be reached at: (804) 748-7737. My staff and I try to ensure the comfort of our out of town guests during their consultations and procedures.

Subj: Re: Lyposuction

What kind of recovery can one expect if have lypo on ab, hips and thighs. Do you wear anything special and for how long. A friend of mine had lypo and said she itched terribly wearing a girdle type garment. How long would a person expect to stay swollen and can they go for a massage to get the fluid and swelling out. Please respond Thank you s

Dr. Bermant responds:

This should not be construed as medical advice. I am a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.

Liposuction is a name for a wide variety of surgical sculpting of localized fat. Recovery depends on how extensive the surgery needs to be. The regions you specify can have minimal extra tissue to massive amounts not realistic for such intervention. Most are back to work in 2-3 days for an average suction lipectomy operation. I ask most of my patients to avoid strenuous activities for two to four weeks.

Swelling depends on the type surgery, tumescent techniques need the extra fluid to be managed by the body. The initial swelling goes down within the first day to several days. Residual swelling improves over the next several weeks. Tissues continue to evolve over the first 6 months.

Compressive garments can increase the comfort of movement after surgery. The garments can also speed the early resolution of tissue swelling. Massage and other treatments depend on what surgery is done.

Each surgeon has different preferences and methods. The best way to learn what my practice of plastic surgery has to offer and continue your education about liposuction is with an in office consultation and evaluation.

Subj: Re: Liposuction

I am a 25 yr. old female who has been thinking about liposuction on my lower stomach, bottom, and thighs. I was very overwight as a child and have now reached a good weight for my hight, but no matter how many hours I put in at the gym I can't seem to get rid of the pooch in my lower belly, or tighten up my bottom and thighs. I had an appenductamy in 2nd grade and would like to have a child in 3 to 4 years. I was wondering if liposuction would do well for this or if you have any suggestions.

Also how would I go about finding a good surgon in Alabama who is certified to do this operation.

Thank you

J

Dr. Bermant responds:

This should not be construed as medical advice. I am a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.

Liposuction is for localized extra fat. Extra skin or generalized fat are not managed by liposuction. The best way to determine what are your surgical options is during an in office consultation and evaluation. That is where we continue the patient education that some of our patients start on the website.

I am sorry the plasticsurgery4u website is an example of my commitment to patient education. We see patients from all over. My office staff and I must use our time to help our own patients and cannot provide a general referral service.

Subj: Re: Liposuction

Dear Dr. Bermant,
Is it true that liposuction does not remove cellulite? I am a very small 23 year-old woman, only weighing 102 lbs. My thighs aren't too large, however I have cellulite on the back of my thighs just bellow my buttocks. I have tried excercise, drink only water, and watch my fat intake with little improvement. Do you know of ANYTHING I can do about this? I would greatly appreciate any advice you can offer! Also, what do you know about these "endotherapy" (I'm not sure if that is the correct spelling)?

Thankyou!
J

Dr. Bermant responds:

This should not be construed as medical advice. I am a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.

Liposuction is generally not for cellulite. This dimpling is usually from the attachments of the skin to the deeper layers. Fat and motion show these points that tether the skin. Surface suction/rollers reportedly temporarily stretches these connections giving a more pleasing shape. Multiple treatments seem to be necessary. Over time after therapy ceases, the attachments strengthen again with the cellulite returning. The "therapy" and machine are expensive. I have not been convinced such treatments are worthwhile.

Subj: Re: Liposuction

To whom it may concern,

my neighbor and I have some questions about liposuction. We both have the same problem: we've been working out for years, we do lots of cardio and other excercises, but our biggest problem area is out stomach. It won't become flat ! Even though we work out 5 times a week ! Is liposuction our only alternative? What are we doing wrong? If you could send us some information via email we would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you !

Dr. Bermant responds:

This should not be construed as medical advice. I am a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.

Liposuction is not for everyone, it manages only localized fat. It is not a treatment for those who put on too many calories. It is not for redundant skin that will not shrink on its own. Other choices include abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) and other such operations for excess skin and fat.

Of course I cannot comment on options without and examination and evaluation. Preliminary information about liposuction can be found on the liposuction section of my website.

Subj: Re: Liposuction

Dr. Bermant:

First of all, you have a great website and I appreciate all the time you must spend on it. Now, I have a question for you dealing with a past e-mail. The person was wondering about the effects of liposuction on her cellulite. Until today, the most effective treatment I have heard about is endermologie. However, one Dr. Robert Yoho has a webpage in which he felt that his liposuction technique was more effective for the reduction of cellulite than massage or endermologie. Why the two conflicting views? If you would like to ask him, I guess his E-mail is ..... Do you think that this was an untrue statement? This was the first I've heard of liposuction being able to improve cellulite.

Thank you for your time.

Dr. Bermant responds:

This should not be construed as medical advice. I am a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.

Liposuction DOES not generally treat cellulite. Not all doctors have the same training. There are no "cosmetic" boards recognized by the American Medical Boards (the group that certifies boards in the United States). Anyone can call themselves a "plastic surgeon" or a cosmetic surgeon. Only those who have spent the time training and testing and who have passed the rigorous examinations of the American Board of Plastic Surgeons are "Board Certified" in plastic surgery. The doctor you ask me about is a Dermatologist, not a plastic surgeon. I have found nothing to make me believe he has "discovered" something new. Buyer beware.

I hope this information proves of some use. If my office can be of further assistance, please let us know. We can be reached at: (804) 748-7737. My staff and I try to ensure the comfort of our out of town guests during their consultations and procedures.
