Re: Tumescent Tummy Tuck Abdominoplasty

As a patient of Dr. Bermant, I would like to share briefly with you my experience. First let me tell you that the type of surgery I had was an abdominoplasty, "tummy tuck." This is the removal of excessive fat and skin from the abdomen and replacement of the belly button.

Dr. Bermant explained in great detail to me what was to be done in my type of surgery as well as what to expect afterwards. I was very comfortable and well satisfied with my results. Dr. Bermant takes great pride in his work and strives for perfection in all that he does. I was amazed with the minimal amount of bruising as well as how little pain I felt in the days following my surgery.

I am a 34 year old mother of 2 who recently had abdominoplasty surgery done "tummy tuck." My experience was overly pleasant. I had little pain and minimal bruising, I was also standing nearly in an upright position at 7 days following my surgery.

Thanks to Dr. Bermant who takes great pride in his work. He strives for perfection and does an excellent job in my opinion.

Dr. Bermant made sure I was well educated about the type of surgery I was having, explained what to expect afterwards and answered any questions I had. I felt very comfortable with him and had no hesitation or doubt that I wanted to go ahead with the surgery. Dr. Bermant and his staff are wonderful.

He is gentle during surgery which makes the difference in your recovery. Comparing a cesarean section to a tummy tuck, there is no comparison. The tummy tuck is definitely the choice!

I was up walking almost in an upright position in one week. I returned to work on the 8th day after my surgery doing wonderfully. Dr. Bermant will educate you no matter what type of surgery you are interested in. He will leave no question unanswered. I highly recommend Dr. Bermant for your surgery. He is wonderful, and I will be back for more surgery.

Re: Traveling from New York for Dr. Bermant's Tumescent Tummy Tuck Abdominoplasty

Dear Dr. Bermant & Jane

I just wanted to send a little note to tell you how much I appreciate the wonderful blend of tender loving care and professionalism I experienced in your practice. I am singing your praises to all who will listen! Unfortunately I have heard many mediocre to terrible surgical stories in return (from others who were not your patients). I feel blessed to have the best surgical journey I've heard about.

Thank you for sharing your gifts with the world. I feel truly grateful to have found you.

Sincerely

P

Dear Dr. Bermant,

I want to thank you for a wonderful surgical experience during my pannus reduction/abdominoplasty. From the first day I called your office I was treated like an individual and my questions and concerns were given full attention.

The staff at the hospital was fantastic. Before surgery I appreciated the anesthesiologist and you helping with my request for soothing music and affirming statements in the OR. Everyone was so friendly and the OR was actually warm as I was told it would be!! As I was prepped, your using relaxing visualization was invaluable to me. The next thing I knew, my five hour surgery was over and I had no pain!! I didn't require pain meds until 12-15 hrs after I came out of surgery! I was pleasantly surprised that my pain was manageable and I was able to sleep well every night.

I had a chance to appreciate how caring a doctor you are when I had some blood pressure problems. They resolved, but you still came up to the hospital to make sure I didn't have any concerns or questions. Towards the end of my first overnight, the 11-7 shift nurse said, "You have a really nice doctor; he has called several times to make sure you're OK and that we offer you pain meds." That made me feel fantastic. One Sunday when I called with a question, you immediately called back, took a lot of time with me, and seemed glad I'd called. When my drains needed to stay in a little longer than usual, you opened the office specially for me on a holiday so I could get them out and go home. In addition to all of this, my new tummy looks fantastic!!!

As a nurse, I had lost a lot of faith in how health care is handled. My experience with you gave me renewed faith that there are some health providers that live up to their high calling. I am grateful I found you.

Thank you for all you do.

Sincerely,

P

Re: 6 Months after Traveling from New York for Dr. Bermant's Tumescent Tummy Tuck Abdominoplasty

Dear Dr. Bermant & all,

I am coming up to 6 mos. post-op on my extended abdominoplasty and I have to let you know how my life has changed. I lost a few more pounds and feel I'm at an ideal weight for me. My tummy looks fantastic! Swelling was gone within 2 to 3 months. The scar is fading nicely. I can wear any clothes I want. The main change is in how much more confidence I have. For many years I just tried to hide myself. I recently got involved with a local theatre group and just played - - - in - - -. I just auditioned and got a main role in an upcoming dinner theatre. I never would have done this before surgery! I can undress in the costume room with everyone else! It is so good to not feel deformed! I recently looked at pre-op pictures and I can't believe the difference.

I just wanted to say thanks again for every thing you've done for me. This surgery was a life changing event for me. I look forward to seeing you in a follow-up visit this - - -.

Sincerely,

P

Re: 11 Months after Traveling from New York for Dr. Bermant's Tumescent Tummy Tuck Abdominoplasty

Dear Dr. Bermant,

I am sorry this note is so late. I have been wanting to thank you for all the time you spent with me at my follow up visit (2 months ago). It was wonderful to share with you the end result of your wonderful work! I really appreciate all the time you spent addressing loose skin concerns on other areas of my body. I was sure I'd need another appointment to even begin discussing them. I so needed your support and kind words. I had been having some difficulty adjusting to my new body since completing weight loss. your encouragement to enjoy my body and not rush into more surgery gave me a new clarity and helped me get back to what is truly important. I was so impressed by your stating the idea that it is your ethical duty to help me through the process of adjusting to my body. You epitomize who a doctor should be. I left your office feeling heartened and uplifted.

I recently realized a dream (that took every ounce of courage I have!) by auditioning and getting a small part in our local theatre's production of the musical "-------." I quit singing and dancing years ago and was terrified! I kept telling myself if I could change my life and have surgery, I could do this (the surgery was much easier than that audition though!) Occasionally as I do a dance number my shirt creeps up and I panic and think, "Oh God, someone will see my ugly tummy!," then I remember, ""It looks good, let them see it!" The other night at rehearsal a cast member asked me, "How do you keep your figure, it is fantastic?" A long conversation followed about my whole life change. You have become part of my life story that I hope will touch many people.

Before surgery I decided this event would not just be a physical change, but would truly be a watershed in my life. To me it symbolized cutting away many old things in my life that hindered me, not just skin. The year anniversary of my surgery is coming up ... and I plan to make it a special day. I will think of you on that day and wish you happiness and fulfillment in all you do.

With true sincerity,

P

Re: 2 Years after Traveling from New York for Dr. Bermant's Tumescent Tummy Tuck Abdominoplasty and

10 days after Buttock and Thigh Lift completing Body Lift after Tummy Tuck

Hi Dr.,

I just wanted to let you know we arrived home yesterday and I am doing well. The drain sites are closing well and the incision seems to be healing beautifully. That nasty irritated area and itch have settled down. It has faded to light pink and has smoothed out. I ended the cortisone cream and Benadryl yesterday. It looks better every day.

The most exciting thing today was trying on my bikini bottom !!!! This was the first time since you did the markings pre-op. Oh,man!! I can't believe how good it looks!!! You got the scar inside the lines and my bottom is so pretty!! I am thrilled that the lower back hanging skin is gone!!!! There is no overhang off my swimsuit bottom!!!!! Now I just need to eat lots of veggies and get back to the gym to get my abs back!!!( and no, I don't know how much weight I gained down in the evil Richmond area; I won't get on a scale yet!) On the way home I bought my first thongs and v-string panties!! I never got them before because my butt looked like a train wreck. Not now!!!!!

Well, I was so excited today I had to share it with you. Oh, tell Jane if she likes chocolate she must try the great wall of chocolate at P.F. Chang's. I had to get it to go Sat. before we left. It is a six layer chocolate cake (huge!!!) with wonderful raspberry sauce drizzled on it and garnished with fresh strawberries and blackberries. To call it cake is an injustice, it is truly ambrosia!!! I am getting hungry so I must go and eat some celery sticks!!!

Thanks again for the amazing work you do. I look forward to seeing you soon.

P

Dr. Bermant responds:

Glad everything is going so well and that you like your new lift. Please keep us informed about your progress. We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you back in the office.

Re: 2 Years after Traveling from New York for Dr. Bermant's Tumescent Tummy Tuck Abdominoplasty and

19 days after Buttock and Thigh Lift completing Body Lift after Tummy Tuck

Hi Dr.,

I thought I'd let you know I think I am doing very well. To me the scar looks like its coming along very nicely. It is hard for me to judge evolution/swelling though, but it looks pretty good to me. I don't know if after surgery I mentioned the upper, outer aspects of my outer thighs, hips and buttocks were very dead with a bit of soreness. Last week I noticed the area start to liven up a bit and with it came a bit of soreness/dull burn there. It wasn't anything too uncomfortable and it pleased me because I know its a sign normal sensation is returning. It's been better the last couple days too.

I am thrilled how quickly I'm returning to activities! A couple days last week I felt very tired and wondered why. I laughed to myself when I thought of what I'd tell other post-op patients,"You just had surgery a couple weeks ago and your body needs some extra rest to recover." I forget I had surgery!! I began driving a week ago and that goes well with a pillow behind me. I can't do everything yet but I'm moving quite well. The most difficult activities are getting in a car and trying to bend low more than briefly. The most difficult thing of all is tying sneakers(thank God for slip-ons!) Yesterday I went to the gym for a light 25 minute walk around the track and a light 35 minute weight training session of things I felt I could do. I felt great and a serious athlete would have pushed harder but I'm not that serious!! I'm sure it was quite comical watching me slowly get on and off machines. That was the hardest part of it. No, I take that back,TYING those sneakers was harder!!! I am very proud that I once was a 263 pound woman who never moved and here I am now 2-1/2 weeks post-op working out!!

I credit your wonderful work and all the complimentary healing methods I use for much of my progress. Acupuncture, Visualization,Hypnotherapy, supplements, to name just a few, along with lots of positive, healing thoughts from friends, are helping to heal me. I love this quote by Albert Schweitzer,"It's a trade secret but I'll tell you anyway. All healing is self-healing". I am so grateful too for the great people at CJ Willis and your office. I know how it can be in health care and I am blessed to have the most quality people involved in my healing.

There's my progress. Hope you're as pleased with it as I am.

P

Dr. Bermant responds:

Yes, the return of sensation can be interesting. At 2 1/2 weeks you are doing very well. I am glad to hear how well things are going for you. Please continue to let us know about your progress. We look forward to seeing you back in the office.

Re: 2 Years after Traveling from New York for Dr. Bermant's Tumescent Tummy Tuck Abdominoplasty and

26 days after Buttock and Thigh Lift completing Body Lift after Tummy Tuck

Hi again,

I've sent a note every week since I got home so I thought I'd send one last one before I see you. Incredible gains since last week!! I'm pretty much back to normal. I can bend and at the gym I'm close to my full routine and weight training program(with the exception of the torso rotation machine-you sit and twist your upper body to work side abs-I usually use 110 pounds and my lower back thinks 70 pounds is plenty now!) I don't need a pillow behind me to drive etc.,etc. The thing that is evolving every day is the sensation around the surgical area. I remember from last time numbness, a twinge, weird itches and sensations come and go and will for a long time. The scar looks great to me; can't wait to see what you think!

I had been wearing loose clothes because they were most comfy. I just started wearing my snugger clothes and I'm delighted by how it really makes a difference in regular clothes!! I did'nt know if dressed it would show. I look so awesome in my workout pants!! They must think I'm the most vain woman there 'cause I keep looking in the mirror at the gym!! This has really helped me with my body image. I had been so displeased by my bottom(not big enough, etc.) and now it isn't big but it's pretty. I feel proportioned now and at peace with that part of me. I can't wait to have the next surgery because I know it'll be the same powerful restoration.

Hope you had a good time away. I'm sure you're coming into a busy season. I look forward to seeing you in the office next Monday.

P

Dr. Bermant responds:

We are enjoying your progress reports and are glad things are going so well. The meeting was productive and interesting. We look forward to seeing you back in Richmond.

Re: 2 Years 1 Month after Traveling from New York for Dr. Bermant's Tumescent Tummy Tuck Abdominoplasty and

2 Months after Buttock and Thigh Lift completing Body Lift after Tummy Tuck

Hope you are well and enjoying your work.

Well, just as I can never go to a restaurant and order off the menu as recipes are written( I always see a way to tweak a recipe and make it better!) So it is with plastic surgery. I am thrilled about your doing an upper body lift and breast lift. I probably have the greatest expectation for this surgery as I have always been very unhappy with my breasts and the rolls down my back are a big issue for me. My new pondering has been about the size of my nipples. I just feel my newer, smaller, higher breasts would look prettier with smaller nipples. I wonder if it is possible to do that procedure while you're doing my breasts? It would be so nice to come out with the breasts I've always dreamed of. I certainly understand if you can't do this with the other procedures(but I always like you to explain why). I know you always have good rationale for what you do. That's why I come to you, because you're the best!!

By the way, I am loving my new butt!!! I look in the mirror every chance I get!! I look at my butt and say,"Damn,I look good!!!!!!!!!!!" For a woman who has always hated or at best tolerated her body, that is miraculous.

Thanks for addressing my issues. I appreciate it. Thank Jane for being so patient every time I call to bug her. I know you have lots of patients but she always makes you feel so important. She's a gem!!!

P

Dr. Bermant responds:

Areola reduction is part of breast lift surgery, actual nipple reduction is not and should be done as a staged operation if desired. Pushing the blood supply too far can result in tissue just not making it. In addition, nipple reduction in the female breast can interfere with potential breast feeding. I would be glad to discuss such issues and help you explore your concerns.

We appreciate your keeping us informed about your progress. Glad you are enjoying your new body.

Comments About Tumescent Tummy Tuck:

I am 27 years old, and I have always felt that I was an attractive woman, except I was always self conscious about my tummy. I have had two pregnancies and it has taken its toll on my body. I had ugly stretch marks an a lot of extra skin. No amount of exercise would have tightened the amount of extra skin I had. My only options left was surgery to give me the flat tummy that I wanted.

Don't get me wrong surgery is nothing to be done without giving it a great deal of thought. But maybe my explaining the way I felt after surgery will help anyone who is thinking of getting surgery but a little undecided. My surgery was done on a Friday morning, the last pain pill I had to take was on Monday morning. I think my back was more uncomfortable than my stomach because of simply the way you have to walk for a few days. I ended up being back at work ten days after the surgery. But going through a week of being a little uncomfortable was well worth it because of the way my tummy looks now. I look and fell 100% better about myself. I'm no longer self conscious about the way I look in a bathing suit or if my shirt will ride up above my belly. I'm more relaxed and just simply very happy.

A

Comments 1 week after Tumescent Tummy Tuck:

Initially when I woke up, I was not uncomfortable at all. I felt fine. I was a little sore. When the anesthetic wore off, it got to be a little bit more uncomfortable and I need to take some pain medication, I did not need any shots, just the pills. The day after surgery was the most uncomfortable. After that, every day it just got better and better. After the drains were out, I felt phenomenal. I am one week after surgery and yesterday was the best day I had so far. The pain medication helped, after taking the pill, I could still feel it but it was tolerable. I took the prescription medication the day after, the next day and only a couple the third day - that was it. I was prepared for much more discomfort than I had. I felt that it was going to be worse. It was not as bad.

You need to be careful when you laugh, if you press and hold your stomach, it does not hurt so bad. That is the only thing I noticed. You have to be careful while the drains are in, getting up so that they do not pull and hurt.

I think my new belly looks great! I love it. It looks way better now, nice and flat. I don't have the stretch marks I had before. I don't have the extra roll of skin I had prior to the surgery. My old belly button lay more horizontal and not in the correct place it should be. Now I have the nice vertical belly button and right in the center where it should be.

My advice to others is do it. It took me a while to think about it. The more I thought about it after coming in to have a consultation with Dr. Bermant, the more I felt comfortable. Looking at pictures on the website made me more comfortable knowing what I wanted to do. I found others with pictures similar to the way I was. I felt bad with the way I looked.

I am excited. I am so happy. I was so glad to get this dressing patch off and see my belly button today. Before surgery, I did not like to wear bikinis. My low wasted pants that I wear, I would have this extra skin that would hang over it, and now I am so very happy.

My husband saw me yesterday, not with my regular pants on and he said, "Wow, you look great!" So he is really pleased with it. My girlfriend across the street, she come over to me and said that really looks good. I used to hide it more with my cloths. Now I can wear shorter shirts I want to wear and more fitted T-shirts that I could not wear before because I was so self-conscious.

Comments 3 weeks after Tumescent Tummy Tuck

I have noticed that every day it has been getting better and better with walking and being able to do things of every day life - vacuum and clean and stuff now. I waited until the week after surgery to start trying my normal activities like pushing or pulling things. It was fine, it was comfortable, and I could do it. I just took my time and did some things a little slower. When sweeping I had to be careful to squat instead of bend. Other than that, it was just fine. Starting about at 2 weeks, I was able to bend normally.
I went back to work at 10 days after surgery with no problems. I had to do things differently since I could not bend easily to pick things up and squatted instead. I was able to work and do things I was normally able to do.

Comments at 11 weeks after Tumescent Tummy Tuck

The nerves are starting to regenerate. I am starting to have sensitivities in areas that were numb, nothing painful, just sensitive. They are starting to have more feeling again.

Clothing difference:
I don't have to wear long shirts to cover my stomach. I can wear bikinis that don't have to be high wasted. I can pretty much wear any type of hip hugger low wasted jeans. Before I had to make sure they would fit, that it would not look bad, and that I could suck it in. Now I really do not have to do that.

I am going on a cruise. I have bought lots of short shirts, halter type tops. I bought two bikinis and got some tight tank tops in the stomach area where before I could not do that because it would cling to my stomach and it looked awful! Now I can get the tank tops that are tighter to your skin now. It looks great! I had to get a couple of formal dresses for dinner. I had tried on one before surgery, it just looked awful because of the stomach. After surgery after some of the swelling went down, I went back and got one very similar a few weeks after surgery. It looks great!

How do i feel with my new tummy? Well, fantastic actually. I was going through my wadrobe a few days ago looking at some underwear. It used to be high waisted to cover my entire tummy now hipster briefs are totally in for me. I feel confident, sexy and it has totally changed my self esteem. Before i was always concious of my flabby skin hanging over the top of my trousers now i dont have to worry and the skimpier the garments the better just to show off my new FLAT stomach!! Cant imagine how low i would have been or wether i would still by married by now if i hadnt have had it done. There is life kids... and a tummy tuck!
